I'm sorry you never made to LOV (it can be a little hard to find the first time), but glad to hear that you found your way to a place where God is working and where you feel you should be. That resonates with the way I came to be at LOV (almost by accident), and it was clearly God's leading in my life.

Stay in touch,
GordonGordon Hackmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06342433273604253495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19163186.post-43840477746337186752007-04-04T08:07:00.000-05:002007-04-04T08:07:00.000-05:00Gordon,Cruised over here from Jesus Creed when I h...Gordon,

Cruised over here from Jesus Creed when I heard you attended an EC (shhh!) in this area. I live in Wheeling and am in a similar boat to you. My wife, daughter, and I set out to attend LOTV the second Sunday after we moved up here from SW Missouri, ended up getting completely lost (and therefore completely late) because of horrible directions (linked from LOTV's website), and decided to visit another church, which we have been attending ever since (about 3 months). Wish we would've been able to join you all, but so far we really feel like God's doing some amazing things at Harvest (in Rolling Meadows). Still, it's nice to know that there are a few emergents stranded out in the burbs (I'm definitely more drawn to the city, but am up here because of proximity to seminary and work). If you're interested in getting together for coffee sometime, feel free to email me (there's a link at my blog).

BTW, you've probably already heard of them since you seem to be deeper into the "ambient scene" than I, but since I didn't see them mentioned anywhere, I highly recommend Sigur Ros to you. In case your unfamiliar, they're an Icelandic ambient rock band (think Moby meets Coldplay) which I only recently discovered. WAY good stuff. I posted a blog entry about them a few weeks ago and linked a killer video of theirs as well.

Peace,

mattBelovedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13178571788989858707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19163186.post-55075026068602876922007-03-05T08:51:00.000-06:002007-03-05T08:51:00.000-06:00Lins,Thanks for the encouraging comment. I think we are truly blessed at Life on the Vine to have the kind of community that Hauerwas talks about here, where the church truly is first family and we share in one another's lives. I am so thankful for Dave Fitch (and by extension Stanley Hauerwas :)) and his vision for the church.Gordon Hackmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06342433273604253495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19163186.post-56306991197428549442007-03-05T08:21:00.000-06:002007-03-05T08:21:00.000-06:00Thanks for this Gordon, it was great. How powerful it is to be involved in the life of these kids. I am glad that many of the parents at our church allow me to live life with their kids. Thanks for the encouragement :)Linseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05661163697127236613noreply@blogger.com
